Yakima, Washington based CubCrafters has announced that the company has obtained a
Validation of Type Certification (VTC) from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for
its CC18-180 Top Cub model. The VTC was issued October 18, 2012 allowing the Top Cub to be
imported and operated in China.
CubCrafters began extending its reach internationally with the company’s first deliveries of its
new, manufactured aircraft to Canada in 2009, then Australia in 2010. In 2012 they established
their first Certified Sales Center in Europe. Now CubCrafters is poised to sell aircraft into
China’s emerging civil aviation market. “We’ve always maintained a global market perspective,”
comments Randy Lervold, Cubcrafters’ General Manager. “Our recent increases in engineering
resources, along with improved manufacturing capacity have allowed us to push beyond
domestic sales and develop markets abroad.”
The Top Cub is CubCrafters’ Part 23 Certified aircraft, originally inspired by the classic Super
Cub. Benefitting from decades of improvements to the PA-18 airframe, and incorporating the
company’s own Super Cub STCs into the design, the Top Cub is a classic back-country airplane.
With a gross weight of 2,300 lbs. the Top Cub features a useful load of 1,100 lbs., making it the
most capable two-seat personal and utility aircraft in its class.
The company also offers two SLSA models, Sport Cub S2 and Carbon Cub SS, as well as the
Carbon Cub EX kit.
CubCrafters, founded in 1980 by current owner and CEO, Jim Richmond, is located at McAllister Field Airport (YKM)
in Yakima, WA. CubCrafters' roots are in the 70-year history of classic taildragger aviation, but its products
and services are innovative and completely modern.
CubCrafters designs and manufactures Part 23 Certified, LSA and Experimental aircraft. The Top Cub, with a useful
load of over 1,000 lbs., is the most up-to-date iteration of the historic Super Cub available. The Carbon Cub SS LSA
has redefined expectations of "backcountry aircraft" with its light weight, powerful engine, and breathtaking
performance. CubCrafters also offers their Carbon Cub in a kit variant, the Carbon Cub EX-2, as well as an
E-AB "builder assist" program, Carbon Cub FX Builder Assist. The company's newest introduction, XCub, substantially
expands the mission profile of sport utility aircraft with its higher speed, longer range and larger payload.
