CubCrafters Opens European Market
June 11, 2012

When it receives delivery of a CubCrafters Carbon Cub in early June, directSky will become the aircraft manufacturer’s dealer to service the European market.

directSky provides aircraft sales, maintenance, management, restoration, repairs and pilot training. It is headed by Managing Director /CEO Kamil Skorupski. DirectSky is located in Ireland (Abbeyshrule Airfield) and Poland (Mielec Airfield).

Initially, directSky will be offering two CubCrafters aircraft:

  • The Carbon Cub SS – the world’s highest performance light sport aircraft. It will initially be registered under the EASA Permit to Fly regulation until it is issued a certificate in the EASA CS-LSA category.
  • The Carbon Cub EX – a kit version of the Carbon Cub SS. An excellent choice for the first-time builder.

“We’ve received a lot of inquiries for both types of aircraft, and we believe that the factory built Carbon Cub SS and kit Carbon Cub EX will prove to be as popular in Europe as they are in the U.S.,” says Skorupski. “We’re delighted to offer them to our customers in Europe.”

CubCrafters General Manager Randy Lervod comments: “We’ve been eager to establish a presence in Europe for some time now, but needed to find an importer/dealer who offered the right fit. I believe we’ve found that fit with directSky. They have the infrastructure necessary to promote and support the product, even to the point of being able to build an aircraft. Most important, they share our commitment to providing customers with the highest levels of quality and service.”

directSky plans on hosting a European Union press event in July or August, to formally introduce the CubCrafters line.

ABOUT CUBCRAFTERS

CubCrafters is located in Yakima, Washington and was founded in 1980 by current owner Jim Richmond. In 2007, CubCrafters was issued a FAA Production Certificate and is currently the only aircraft manufacturer in the nation to produce both standard category and light sport category aircraft under an FAA-approved quality assurance program. CubCrafters' roots are in the 60-year history of classic "taildragger" aviation, but its products and services are clearly at the leading edge of technology.

CubCrafters offers three all new, ready-to-fly aircraft: The SPORT CUB S2 is a thoroughly updated redesign of the classic airplane that inspired the light sport category. The CARBON CUB SS is a stronger and more powerful version of the S2, with 180 horsepower available for take-off and climb, making it the most powerful LSA aircraft in production. The TOP CUB boasts a useful load of over 1000 pounds, making it among the most capable two-place personal and utility aircraft available. CubCrafters also offers the CARBON CUB EX, the lightest, most complete and best engineered Cub kit available.
